Vast Lives Episode 15 - Piter Panjaitan
In this 15th episode of The Vast Lives Podcast, Steve Shooter has an interesting discussion with an ever-passionate surfer, and managing director of the Bali Life Foundation, Piter Panjaitan. The conversation unravels amidst a studio setting-a far cry from the usual setup of the podcast-which added to the excitement of the discussion.
The podcast begins with a bit of nostalgia, reflecting on Steve and Piter's accidental meeting at the Bingin BoardRiders Club event. Piter's warm and engaging personality was immediate, and it was very evident that both his love for surfing and community run deep. He shared his journey into surfing, which began just four years ago, and how it has transformed his life. Being a late starter, Peter has already attempted most of the challenging waves in Indonesia and proved it's never too late to pursue your passion.

We focused on the Bali Life Foundation, which he and his wife took over in 2013, as we went further into the discussion. It is the hope of this foundation that through education and empowerment, dignity and purpose can be brought into the lives of less fortunate children and their families in Bali. Piter spoke about the various programs they run, including a children's home, which cares for about 49 children with troubled backgrounds. He said, "It is very importantto create a family-like environment for these kids because most of them havebeen abandoned or abused.
We also talked about the bigger scheme of work done by the foundation in educating street kids and equipping their mothers with livelihood skills. Piter has a pretty ambitious vision-to be able to provide education for 10,000 underprivileged children across Indonesia in the next decade.
This episode celebrates hope, resilience, and the real power of paying it forward. I invite you to tune in and be inspired by Piter's story and the great work they do at the Bali Life Foundation. If this conversation moves you, please act to support their initiatives or get involved any way you can. Together we can.
