Vast Lives Podcast: Episode 23 Josh Campbell:Taiwanderful Recycle Co
In this episode of our podcast, Steve had the pleasure of sitting down with Josh Campbell, co- founder of Taiwanderful Recycle Co, located on the beautiful east coast of Taiwan in Donghe, Taitung County. Their conversation centered itself around the work being done at his community-based recycling studio, where clean, sorted waste is given new life, reimagined into meaningful products.
Something that we don't always remember to do (Josh went on to explain just how critical it is), is ensure our recycling is clean before disposing. He further raises our awareness that a jaw dropping 91% of plastic that could be recycled ends up in landfills due to contamination. This really exposes the need for better education around how we manage our waste, which is a core mission of Taiwanderful Recycle Co. The studio not only serves as a recycling facility but also as an educational centre, empowering those in the nearby communities to take responsibility for what they do with their waste.
Throughout their conversation, Josh shared his personal journey, from his childhood in Monterey Bay, California, to his experiences traveling in Southeast Asia, where he could not turn a blind eye to the enormous amount of plastic pollution. Josh has a deep appreciation for the environment, his community and is dedicated to finding solutions to plastic waste management.
Josh shared exciting plans for the future of Taiwanderful Recycle, including the launch of a nonprofit alongside their for-profit model, aimed at expanding their impact. He invited listeners to get involved, whether locally in Taiwan or globally, to help tackle the plastic waste problem.
