Vast Lives Ep 24 : Mick Yu Tsang Chou
In this episode of the Vast Lives podcast series, Steve has the pleasure of sitting down with Mick Yu Tsang Chou who owns the Sol Goods Boutique store in Taipei.
Mick shared how he was drawn to the ocean as a young man. Growing up in Taipei, his first loves were fashion and city life, but being the curious type he sought out the coast where he was bitten by the surfing bug. Surfing and surf culture in Taiwan was only just taking off.
Mick opened Sol Goods Boutique nearly 11 years ago, initially starting as a small vendor. His love for the ocean and desire to share that passion with others drove him to introduce unique brands, including being the first in Taiwan to stock Vast. He spent some time in California, where he experienced the surf industry first-hand and learned about the lifestyle that comes with it.
Throughout our conversation, it was clear to see that Mick places a high importance on the quality and authenticity of the brands he works with. He explained how he carefully curates what his store offers, blending underground brands with more mainstream names to create a unique experience for his customers.
Mick shared his views on the ever changing fashion landscape relating to surf culture and streetwear. His dreams for the future—a multifunctional space that combines a shop, restaurant, and community hub where people can socialize, skate, and enjoy the outdoors.
