VAST LIFE TAIWAN ROAD TRIP DAY 1

Day One

We had a rough start to the day after a great send off at VAST Cali Eatery. The red bike wasn’t breathing right and kept choking out on us before we even got out of the city. Luckily we still had a few of the guys from the gathering riding with us. Alex from 1996 customs helped us replace the carburetor and we got Red breathing right again. Although we didn’t get on the road until after 5, it gave us a chance to connect with some of the new folks who were riding with us today. At this point the clouds were looking ominous and the sun was getting low in the sky.

We were running out of time so our plans to tour the North Shore of Taiwan got scrapped and we ended up taking a detour through the mountain roads straight to Yilan. The dark clouds only resulted in light rain and a little mist. Seeing the mist settle in the valleys with a view of the harbor lights in Yilan made the detour worth it. Sometimes it’s the route you don’t go that makes the trip.

After a couple pit stops along the way we finally made it to Yilan around 9 o’clock. Stopped at a local spot for some food and drink, help us get re-energized for tomorrow. We didn’t get a chance to surf or check out any spots today, but the views from the misty mountain road made it all worth it. Day one was a good day to get acquainted with the new bikes and the open road that’s waiting for us.
